Dual boot - remove one OS.
The Golden Rule of dual-booting is to install the NEWEST Windows LAST. If you do that, the process is easy and automatic, because Vista Setup knows just what to do when it finds WinXP already installed. But WinXP hasn't the slightest idea what to do about Vista, which didn't exist until about 5 years after WinXP's

Is this possible?

Should I use 64 bit Windows XP?
You however can use an XP install disk and reformat the partition and install a fresh copy of XP. If you have any data you need to save from Vista, copy it to your external HD first. After you get XP set up you can copy your data back into it. There is no RECOVERY. One way street only.

You cannot uninstall a Vista and return to XP that way. Rather you boot the comptuer with your XP cd and delete the Vista partition, create a new partition, format, and install XP. You must have your XP drivers ready ahead of time so that you can reinstall them after the installation of XP completes.
